Artist Statement

My artistic practice reflects upon feminism and the positive and negative effects that it has had on women throughout the ages. My aim is to make people consider whether things have improved for women in today’s society or if there has been more damage due to the changes.

Text, sound and installation are used in my practice as they reflect spoken discourse which are shown through recorded short stories. The work focuses on the views of individual women from different age groups and their feelings towards this ever growing subject.

My work is expressed through these mediums because I feel that these processes communicate my ideas more clearly, due to thought being shown through the complex system of language. The body is used as a tool for speech. Speech enables us to communicate; therefore the audience does not need any strong visual images as they create their own from the spoken words they hear. The installation pieces act as a visual stimulus to help support and strengthen the images the viewer creates in their minds.

Do you feel you have been affected by these changes? Tell me your story…
